We are meeting normal time at Ravens Ait and will walk at 8.30ish pm with all scouts to Ajax Head quarters. So you do not need to collect your child from Ravens Ait, instead we like you to take your child home after the meeting.
Important; can every Scout that received a cap at St Georges Parade ensure that they bring them back this coming Friday. We still have not received all caps back and need them for the remembrance parade and the service at St Marks Church the week after.
Last but not least, please if you haven't already register yourself on this website using the link on the right so that we can start sending emails.
Summer camp is fast approaching, looking forward to plenty of activities such as sailing, kayaking, windsurfing as well as lots of land based activities. The Jamboree website is www.seascout100.net if you fancy having a look at the full range of activities.
Unfortunately it is now time to ask for the balance of the camp fee (£220 total). For most of you, you have paid the £20 deposit leaving £200 due. We would ask that you give this in by 12 June 2009 to either Floor or Jon asap. If you have any queries or problems please come and speak to one of us.
Health forms and updates will be coming out shortly. If you haven't already please sign up to the website so you can receive emails directly when we send stuff out.

As many of you may have heard, the company leasing Raven's Ait, where the Troop meet in the summer for boating, went out of business at the end of last year. Since then squatters have taken up residence of the island, an act which made the BBC local news, and have mistreated some of our equipment that was stored there. On Thursday 19th March the squatters were evicted by the council leaving the island free in the meantime for the scouts' use on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. So smiles all round for now!
From February 2009 the Troop hopes to use this website and email as the main form of communication. Hopefully parents will no longer need to find out about activities and events by finding soggy letters that have just been through a nice spin cycle!
If you are the parent/guardian of a scout in the Troop, please Register to join the Mailing List.

This year we will be venturing north for the 100 years celebration of Sea Scouting. A Sea Scout Jamboree held at the National Watersports centre, Holm Pierre Point in Nottingham. The dates are August 1st – 8th 2009. Have a look at their website for the types of activities going on from white water rafting to fun slides it promises to be a great week. www.seascout100.net . As time is quite short we need your interest with £20 deposit asap and by February 6th(that’s only a couple of weeks but we need to give numbers to the organising team) Places may be limited so get in quick to reserve your place. The cost will be an estimated £220. We do realise that this is a bit more than usual so if there are any problems please come and speak to one of the leaders.

'Discover SCUBA' with Underwater Scooter
We have gone diving with Aquanaut and will be arranging another session next year. The evening will include a safety talk and a brief introduction to the equipment before taking you into the water. We will have our underwater Diver Propulsion Vehicles (DPV) available for each Scout to have a turn at being 'James Bond'. We also have a deeper swim down to 4m on scuba, more relevant to a future scuba course. The subsidized cost will be £5 per head (the full price is £15).
At the end of the session you will receive a Certificate each to commemorate the occasion in a 'thank you' pack. You will need swimming gear and a towel.
You need to be in good health and fully fit for diving. You will need to complete the first page of the medical consent form in order to sign up. Download a pdf consent form (ignore pages 2-6 which are for those unfit in some way).
We meet as normal in uniform at 7pm. We will go by minibus to Putney Leisure Centre and will be in the Scuba session from 8pm to 10pm. We will be back at HQ in Surbiton about 10.45pm

Skills in Scouts
You learn how to row in the Sea Scouts on the river and how to control and take care of boats and keep them in good condition. In the summer you learn to kayak. When the Winter months begin we do more badgework in scout meetings. By earning badges we produce more skills, that most of would not know we were good at. All together there are seventy activity badges in total. There are also eight challenge badges. As scouts we also do alot of community work for Surbiton. We also somehow learn how to march as a scout group in the annual Surbiton Festival.

All about scouts
The reason I came to scouts, was that I was to old for cubs and I thought the idea of rowing on the River Thames was GREAT!
On Ravens Ait
We are on Raven Ait from July - September, we row in many different types of boats. They include, gigs, dinghys, canoes, and kayaks. The leaders and some explorers go on the motor boats. We have to wear a bouyancy aid incase we fall in, also the oars are massive.
In the hut
When we aren't on the river we play games and do different activities in the scout hut. Sometimes we practice knots, play lighthouseand other varied games.

My time at scout camp
We went to camp in a place called Lake District and it had a lot of lovely views. My favourite thing was air rifle shooting and rock climbing . Also football. My least favourite thing was rock climbing because I am afraid of heights.
Freddie
When I went to Scout camp I was in Andrew's tent with Keiran, Tom, David, Sam and me. The camp was the Lake District and the journey was really long and boring. Luckily I played a couple of games on the way. Near the end of the trip we stopped to get a burger king. It took six hours but we still got there. My favourite thing at camp was going and having fun all the time. My least favourite thing was slidding downa twenty-five foot hill. Even though i fell I enjoyed camp a lot it was the best thing ever in the world.
